The Rainbow Prince
Buckingham Palace, 2021.
James, the popular young Prince of Wales,
is due to marry Lady Arabella Hiscott-Brown.
But he’s in love with his valet, Raju.
As the wedding looms, James confesses his love.
he's been in love with James from day one.
And he too is facing a marriage that’s expected
of him, rather than one he wants.
A week before the nuptials, James tells his
father that he’s in love with another man.
Shocked, the King nonetheless promises to support his son
and cancel the royal wedding.
But before he can do so, he dies of a heart attack.
James is devastated.
Now king, he’s left alone to face
the full force of palace tradition.
A tradition, like that of Raju’s family,
which demands an heir.
Will James and Raju stay true to their hearts?
Or their traditions?
The Rainbow Prince is a kaleidoscopic new musical
being developed by Neil Bastian,
writer of Force Ten Gayle and
The Mayfly Man.
It shines a light on sexuality, cultural traditions,
and the place of the monarchy in today's UK.
All to a pulsating pop soundtrack.
